Badgers Short Mat Bowls

GENERAL
The Badgers are a member of the Pembrokeshire Short Mat Bowls Association and affiliated to the Welsh Short Mat Bowls Association. The associations are respectively responsible for organising and selecting the Pembrokeshire and Welsh teams and arranging County and National Competitions.
The club currently has 17 members and has club nights Tuesday and Friday evenings during the winter dependent on match fixtures. One team plays in the "main league" and one team in the "presidents league". The season runs from early September till late April. During the summer there is usually bowling on Wednesday evening at 19.00.
LEAGUES 2008/2009
The Badgers teams finished the season in 5th position in the Main League and 4th in the Presidents League. This placed the Badgers teams in the top half of the two leagues, which is good considering the high standard of bowls played in the leagues. However, we failed to pick-up any trophies this season!
SEASON 2009/2010
At the AGM held in June 2009 a new Captain, Nigel Griffiths, was elected. Having thanked Joyce Howe for the last two years as Captain, Nigel also said he would do all possible to continue the improvements.
SEASON TO DATE
What I want to know is "what is Nigel putting in the tea?"!
The league team, after their first 4 games have scored a maximum of 32 points and are obviously heading their league with the best start they have ever had.
The Presidents team, after their first 4 games are currently 8th in the league. A voice from the Presidents team was heard to say " Nigel the presidents team wants some of what the League team are drinking"! It worked! We played Welfare and picked up the maximum 8 points................
The competions "County" and "Red Card" singles, pairs, triples and rinks start soon at Heatherton, so the Badgers are working to achieve equal or more success this coming season. Must be Welsh SMB affiliated to enter.
In addition on the competition front there is the Gerry Laugharne Triples 24th October and the Open Pairs Competion 12th December. All are welcome
